February 3-5
The air was filled with the breath of spring. The sun shines warmly and animals regain vitality and plants turn green. The days are beginning to shorten.People will go on a spring tour at this time.
Rain Water 雨水
February 18-20
“Rain Water” indicates that as the weather gets warmer, the amount of rainfall increases, at the same time the form of precipitation transforms from snowfall to rainfall.
The Waking of Insects 惊蛰
March 5-7
Awakening of Insects signals a rise in temperature and increased rain fall. Its name alludes to the fact that animals are awakened by spring thunder and the earth begins to come back to life. It is the key time for spring agricultural activities.
The Spring Equinox 春分
March 20-22
On the day of the Spring Equinox, sun is directly above the equator. After the equinox, the sun moves northwards, resulting in gradually longer day time in the Northern Hemisphere and longer night in the Southern Hemisphere.
Pure Brightness 清明
April 4-6
It is an important traditional festival in China. The major custom in this festival is tomb sweeping. It is also a good time to go out and enjoy the nature.
Grain Rain 谷雨
April 19-21
When the “Grain Rain” is coming, it means that the cold weather has basically ended, the temperature rises faster, which is benefit for the growth of cereal crops.
Beginning of Summer 立夏
May 5-7
Temperature begins to rise obviously, thunderstorm becomes more frequent. Many crops seeded in spring can be harvested in the summer. People should take food which are easier to digest with more vitamins or good for the heart.
Grain Full 小满
May 20-22
Grain Full means country gradually entered the summer and grain will be full. The temperature in all parts of China accelerated. At the same time, agricultural activities are also about to enter the busy season.
Grain in Ear 芒种
June 5-7
During the Grain in Ear, the weather is hot and humid, all kinds of clothing and equipment vulnerable to mold, and China's Dragon Boat Festival at many of the days before and after Grain in Ear.
The Summer Solstice 夏至
June 21-22
The summer solstice is the earliest festival in China. Before the qing dynasty, the summer solstice was a day off for family reunion and drinking. After that, weeds and diseases spread rapidly.
Lesser Heat 小暑
July 6-8
Around the day of Lesser Heat, most areas in the South China see the coming the period with the most thunderstorm days. People will try to go out as little as possible in order to escape the heat.
Greater Heat 大暑
July 22-24
During Great Heat, the sunshine, high temperatures, and heavy rainfall are good for agricultural crops. Also, it will witness the blossom season of jasmines and lotuses.
Beginning of Autumn 立秋
August 7-9
It means the hot weather will soon be over, and autumn will come soon. The weather will become cool and the leaves will become yellow and then fall.
The End of Heat 处暑
August 22-24
It means the scorching summer is going to pass by. As the weather becomes cool during End of Heat, many people will feel languid and weary, which is called "autumn weariness".
White Dew 白露
September 7-9
White Dew indicates the real beginning of cool autumn. The temperature declines gradually and the vapors in the air often condense into white dew on the grass and trees at night.
The Autumn Equinox 秋分
September 22-24
It suggests that the autumn has passed away, and the length of day and night are almost equal on this day. From tomorrow, the length of day will get shorter and the night will get longer.
Cold Dew 寒露
October 8-9
At this time, temperatures are much lower than in White Dew. The dew is greater and colder with less rain. Autumn crops will be ripe.
Frost's Descent 霜降
October 23-24
Frost's Descent is the last solar term in autumn, and it is also the transition period from autumn to winter.
Beginning of Winter 立冬
November 7-8
It is the first solar term of winter, which means winter is coming and crops harvested in autumn should be stored up.
Lesser Snow 小雪
November 22-23
The temperature will become lower. In northern China, the temperature will gradually drop below 0°C, and then begin to snow.
Greater Snow 大雪
December 6-8
The snow becomes heavy and begins to accumulate on the ground. The temperature drops significantly.
The Winter Solstice 冬至
December 21-23
The winter solstice is the day for family togetherness. On this day, people will eat dumplings to symbolize the reunion of family.
Lesser Cold 小寒
January 5-7
“Lesser Cold” happens when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 285 degrees. In China, it indicates the weather starts to enter the coldest days.
Greater Cold 大寒
January 20-21
When this day arrives, it’s time to welcome the Spring Festival. People get busy with buying new things and preparing New Year good. It represents the end of 24 solar terms and winter.
